Warriors Festival launches on a wet and windy Sunday
Strandhill’s 28th Annual Warrior’s Festival launched Sunday, May 13 last on Strandhill beach, where the Warrior’s Festival road run is due to take place this coming August 25.
Despite the terrible weather conditions, Sligo locals turned out in their droves to take part in and support the Warriors Festival’s launch parade for the fifth year running. Led by last year’s winner, Emmett Dunleavy, and the appointed warriors for 2012, Peter Nielson and Cameron Giles, the parade retraced the route that has been run since its launch in 1985.
Concluding on the beach, attendees and participants were treated to exhibitions by Sheer Star Cheerleaders and Beat It Dance Crew who had participated in the parade earlier on in the day.
Registration for 2012 opens May 31, with the quote remaining at 800 participants for this year.
