Wide range of groups to attend community event
Final preparations are being made for the community evening on Thursday at 8pm in the Sligo Park Hotel.The event is being hosted by Sligo leader Partnership Company, the Sligo Community Forum and Sligo Weekender.
Representatives of all community and voluntary groups, development associations and resident associations are invited. Also, members of groups that had been active but have not met for some time are encouraged to attend as are individuals who wish to have new community groups set up in their area.
Sligo leader and Sligo Community Forum will outline funding opportunities and other supports that are available. CEO Chris Gonley speak on behalf of leader while Claire Galligan will represent Sligo County Community Forum.
Sligo / leitrim Garda Division Chief Supt. Michael Clancy will address the gathering on the recently launched Garda Safer Communites campaign and other areas where gardai work closely with communities.
Representatives of Sligo Weekender will advise on how community groups can avail of the media to support their activities in their neighbourhoods.and a spokesperson for Saorview will outline what is involved in the changeover to the new digital TV system later this year. after the brief presentations those attending will have an opportunity to talk to representatives of the support agencies in an informal setting.
