The biggest Kieran Quinn music theme night yet saw over 1,000 people pack into Sligo’s Hawk’s Well Theatre on May 4, 5 and 6 to enjoy 120 performers sing the songs of Billy Joel and Elton John.
Theme Night 15 was simply titled “Piano Man” and brought together the Sligo Academy of Music Sinfonietta, Kieran Quinn’s big band, a male and female choir and a whole host of guest performers which included Sligo rocker Tabby Callaghan, Voice of Ireland finalist Kelesa Mulcahy, local music legend Seamie O’Dowd and the Sligo Weekender’s own Robert Cullen.
On the final night of the show, organiser and band leader Kieran Quinn also revealed details of the next music theme night. It will take place on just one night this time, Thursday, August 4.
However, it will be a free concert with an unlimited amount of tickets. Kieran will be working with Sligo County Council on the concert, which is likely to be part of the Sligo Summer Festival.
For the last two summers, Sligo County Council staged the two-day Summer Festival as the build-up to Sligo’s hosting of the All Ireland Fleadh. Despite there being no Fleadh in Sligo this summer, the Summer Festival is set to take place on the August Bank Holiday weekend.
Videos from the Piano Man theme night are being released on the Facebook page of videographer Kris Manulak, who recorded the show (search ‘Kris Manulak video-photo production’).
The theme for the August 4 concert is Stadium Anthems.
