Disco icons Boney M, featuring Maizie Williams, will headline the Friday night of this years Sligo Summer Festival in August.
Maizie, original singer from the very birth of Boney M in 1975, is now joined by three dynamic singers after the success of the second Boney M remixed album “The Greatest Hits of Boney M” , which included 14 tracks of the best loved songs and was remixed by the original founder of the group, Frank Farian.
It was obvious from the vast number of record sales that the magic of Boney M was still there and now being enjoyed by a new generation. Maizie thought it was time for this new audience to see the energy that goes with each and every one of the groups songs and decided that they would tour.
Audiences in Russia, Thailand, Hong Kong, Japan, China, Uzbekistan, and many other countries have since thrilled to the energetic visual performances of all the well loved songs.
Maizie, most definitely the M in Boney M, and the group have revitalized the songs while keeping the same lyrics, giving them a new and modern sound that will have all generations tapping their feet and moving to the new funky beat.
Boney M’s impressive set with the likes of; “Rivers of Babylon”, “Brown Girl in the Ring”, “Rasputin”, “Mary’s Boy Child”, “Daddy Kool”, “Sunny”, “Ma Baker” and “Hooray Hooray it’s a Holi-Holiday”, guarantees this will be a night of non stop hits!
“We are honoured and delighted to add another International act to the line up for the second year running”, said Chairman of the festival, Daniel McGarrigle. “The addition last year of Sister Sledge brought many visitors from outside Sligo and this is a main objective for this year again. We hope the festival attracts people from near and far to our lovely town and county.”
Sligo Summer Festival, now in its fourth year, has already successfully hosted three hugely attended festivals in 2012, 2013 and 2014. It has attracted thousands of people in the last three years and this year could be the biggest one yet.
Previous years has seen Sister Sledge, The Riptide Movement, Ryan Sheridan, Bressie, The Saw Doctors, Sharon Shannon and Mundy headline with many other amazing Irish acts also grace the stage.
The festival runs for two nights on Friday August 7 and Saturday 8 2015, and runs just before the World Fleadh hits Sligo on Sunday August 9-16, so the crowds are expected to be massive again this year.
As with last year, there will be a minimal voluntary donation for over 14’s on the gate to help fund this Community Festival. The Sligo Summer Festival takes place again in Stephen St. Car Park, Sligo. Check out Sligo Summer Festival on Facebook for full details!
