‘Mourning and anger’ over death of garda

There have been calls for an independent inquiry into the tragic death of 48 years-old Garda Sergeant Mick Galvin.

And a local senator told the Sligo Weekender that the communities in Sligo, Manorhamilton and Ballyshannon are “in mourning and frankly angry at the loss of someone who in all essence was a pillar of the community here in the North West”.

The late Sergeant Galvin’s family and garda colleagues have expressed anger over an investigation by the Garda Siochana Ombudsman Commission (GSOC), worry over which it is believed led the Sligo native to take his own life on Thursday last at Ballyshannon garda station, where he was stationed.
