Sligo Sinn Fein councillor Thomas Healy has said he hasn’t yet made a decision on whether or not to seek his party’s nomination for the next General Election.
Asked yesterday, Wednesday, if he would be putting his name forward given that sitting TD Micheal Colreavy will not be standing again, the Collooney based councillor said: “I haven’t made any decision on it.”
“It is a big undertaking. I have a young family, with a baby just eight weeks old and I was only elected as a councillor last year”, he said.
Cllr Healy said he hadn’t ruled it out but he added: “I haven’t ruled it in either.”
He will however have to make a decision in the next week or so as Sinn Fein has pencilled in a convention for the expanded new Sligo-North Leitrim constituency.
Cllr Healy paid tribute to Deputy Micheal Colreavy, who he said had been “second to none” as a TD.
