Fianna Fail will have no shortage of potential candidates to choose from when the party holds its convention for the Sligo-Leitrim constituency in the next couple of weeks.
Eight people have been nominated for what it is believed will be two places on the ticket.
There are just two Sligo names on the list, Senator Marc MacSharry and former TD and now councillor Eamonn Scanlon.
There are four from Leitrim, former TD John Ellis, Senator Paschal Mooney, Clr Sinead Guckian, Drumsna and Clr Paddy O’Rourke, the current chairman of Leitrim County Council.
And from Cavan – the new constituency takes in part of west Cavan – there are Clr John Paul Feely from Blacklion, and Brid Ni Dholain, from Killeshandra.
There has been been talk of two conventions – one for Sligo/south Donegal and one for Leitrim/west Cavan – but that has been dismissed by party sources as speculation.
