Indian dignatories at monument unveiling

An Indian government minister and the Indian ambassador in Ireland were in Sligo on Tuesday night for the unveiling of a monument to an internationally renowned poet from their country.Tagore B94R0109 (200x133)

Rabindranath Tagore, who was the first non-European to win the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1913, was a friend of WB Yeats.

The unveiling ceremony of the bust, which was presented to Sligo by the Indian government, was also attended by Minister for Justice and Equality Frances Fitzgerald. The proposal to mark the

special association between Yeats and Tagore came about as part of the Yeats 150th Birthday celebrations.
