Council examining N16 for upgrade

Sligo County Council is examining the N16 Sligo-Manorhamilton road with a view to prioritising sections of the route for upgrading over the coming years.

And they will be holding a public consultation process as part of establishing a preferred route for new sections of road.

A County Council spokesperson said that its National Road Design Office will be examining the the full length of the N16 in County Sligo to establish “the most viable route from a current day perspective”. With the support of the National Roads Authority, the council are undertaking a Constraints Study and Route Selection for upgrading the road.

The council spokesperson said that details of the public consultations will be widely publicised closer to the dates.

After that it is intended that a Preferred Route would be established towards the end of this year or early next year.

“Following the establishment of a Preferred Route, sections of the route (circa 3-4km) can then be prioritised for targeted upgrading improvements over the coming years”, the spokesperson said.
