The organisers of this year’s Fleadh in Sligo, which will get underway this Sunday, believe that the numbers attending will be even bigger than last year.
It was estimated that over 350,000 people visited the town over the week of Fleadh Cheoil na hEireann in 2014, generating around €40m for the local economy, but Fleadh chairman Bartley Gavin is expecting even more next week.
“We would expect, given the positive reaction to last year’s Fleadh, that there would be even bigger numbers this year.
“We got a lot of very positive press and there were a lot of people saying it was a great Fleadh. One man, who is in his 60s and has been to a lot of Fleadhs, said it was the best he has been at.”
Mr Gavin also said there was a “huge demand” for accommodation.
