An inquiry has found that the Garda Síochána Ombudsman Commission(GSOC) was “mistaken” in designating a case involving a Sligo garda sergeant as a criminal investigation.
48 years-old Mick Galvin took his own life at Ballyshannon garda station on May 28 last year.
A judicial inquiry into the case by Mr Justice Frank Clarke found that he had been cleared of any wrongdoing just hours earlier but was unaware of that.
It had been reported last year that the father-of-three had been cleared five to 10 days beforehand but had not been informed. However, this was incorrect.
The full report on the Gsoc and Sergeant Galvin can be found in this week’s Sligo Weekender.
