Windfarm windfall there to be taken up

More than €70,000 in funding is available to community groups, schools and sporting clubs which are located near windfarms in counties Sligo, Leitrim, Roscommon, Donegal and Cavan.

What’s more, the number of applications so far has been small, meaning some of this funding may not even be paid out. The money is part of the ESB Wind Farm Community Fund.

Administered by SECAD, each year community halls, sports halls and schools benefit from the fund for projects to make their facilities more energy efficient or help to upgrade existing facilities.

The deadline for receipt of applications is 18 February, but according to a spokesperson for the fund, so far the number of applicants from Sligo has been small, and the Sligo allocation may not be fully paid out if more applications are not received.

However, help is at hand. The team at SECAD will manage all funding proposals, and provide necessary support to the projects. They will also tell you if your project falls within close enough proximity to a wind farm to benefit from the funding. For more details, visit www.windfarmcommunityfunds.ie
