THE An Post Cycle is growing. Close to 75,000 people have rallied in behind the cycle which seeks to promote good causes and get people fit along the way.
Niall Breslin, better known as Bressie, has become the poster boy for the cycle and he told the Sligo Weekender why he wanted to get involved.
“First and foremost I love cycling. I cycle an awful lot and I do triathlons so in a way I have become obsessed by it. Of all of the sports I have every done it is probably the best exercise I have ever had and last year I did the Sligo An Post tour a few weeks before my first Iron Man so it was a really great test.”
One of the factors which lured Bressie to Sligo was the appeal of an old stomping ground for the Blizzards front man.
“I used to spend my summers in Mullaghmore. My grandmother had a house there so I know the area well and I love it. Cycling then is one of the fastest growing sports in Ireland and I can see why when you can see scenery like that [Mullaghmore] on a route. I was going to do the triathlon in Mullaghmore last year but I was injured so I hope to do it this year,” he said.
Bressie is eager to encourage everyone to have a go in the saddle when the tour comes to Sligo.
