Calls for government support and investment have been made in the wake of the announcement on Tuesday that 60-70 jobs are to be lost at Elanco Animal Health in Sligo.
The company, which employs 166 people at its animal health products plant at Finisklin industrial estate, said that the proposed redundancies were part of a necessary restructuring
It said that the “site’s mission is not changing” and that Sligo “will continue to operate as the commercialisation and label and packaging hub for Europe”.
Staff were said to have been shocked when told of the redundancies at a lunchtime meeting on Tuesday.
