On Friday, June 19 the children of Club Damhsa Sean Nos ar an tSionann are putting on their free Summer Finale Show, promising to be an excellent evening of entertainment.
Dancers from Leitrim, Roscommon, Sligo, Mayo, Galway, and Longford will all descend on Carrick on Shannon to perform their exuberating and energetic routines that they have personally choreographed along with the help of teacher Edwina Guckian for this show. From barrels, brushes, bales of hay, tree stumps, trampolines to frying pans, there’s nothing these children won’t dance on to impress their audience!
This year was a hugely successful year for the dance club with students winning All Ireland Fleadh titles in Sligo, performing for President Higgins and touring Ireland with their dance troupe, 7 groups making it to the live stages of TG4’s An Jig Gig, recently claiming silver medals in the All Ireland Final of Community Games and making several videos around Connacht that went viral including The Bodhran Boys who’s video which has clocked up over 200,000 views.
“The children are really excited about this concert. It’s something they’ve been working towards for the past year and they’ve put in a huge effort. We have several members competing in the Sean Nós and music competitions at the Connacht Fleadh 2015 and we’re hoping they’ll be heading for the All Ireland Fleadh in Sligo this August” says teacher Edwina.
Along with all these performances there will also be the annual Awards Ceremony for dancers of the Year and a chance for one lucky person to win a years free dance lessons at the Club.
The free show starts at 7pm in St. Mary’s Hall, Carrick on Shannon and everyone is invited to come support the children and join the fun.
