Isobel Guckian has distilled her extensive knowledge in the book, entitled “Floorplay” which, amazingly, is the first book on foot health to be published in Europe and aimed at a general audience since 1845.

The book was launched in Dublin on Friday, November 23 and is now available through select bookshops or online.

The book is invaluable as a practical guide to the most common foot complaints, this volume focuses on problems such as verrucae, ingrowing toenails, fallen arches, cracked heels and Achilles tendon complications.

As well as examining specific foot ailments, the book looks at broader issues, such as children’s feet, sports injuries, diabetes and its relationship to foot health and how pregnancy can impact on the feet.

The book is aimed primarily at a general audience, to promote a greater appreciation of the importance of foot care as everything from inappropriate footwear (including high heels) and hectic lifestyles take their toll.

Sligo-born Isobel Guckian trained as a general nurse at the Mater Hospital Dublin, later obtaining a degree in Podiatric Medicine from the University of Cardiff.
After working in the UK and in Saudi Arabia, she set up her own clinic in Dublin.

She is a council member of the Society of Chiropodists and Podiatrists in Ireland.
